    This step-by-step repair guide shows how to replace the electronic control board in a window air conditioner. The control board is the “brains” of the window air conditioner. It monitors sensor and activates components as needed to cool the room and maintain the set temperature. If the electronic control board is defective, replace it using a manufacturer-approved replacement part.

    similar circumstance occurred when the blower control board failed on our Lennox G20 WhisperHeat furnace a few years ago. I'm a retired electronics technician, and decided to take a look at the board prior to calling our Lennox dealer for a service call. The problem was a relay failure on the control board, no electronic circuit failures. I manufacturing went ahead and called the dealer, and they sent out a tech. I told him what I had found, and he asked if I was competent to replace the relay on the printed circuit board. I said "yes," and he gave me a new relay. I saved myself over $400 for the board replacement, and it's still working fine - thanks to the local very customer-oriented Lennox dealer. Most dealers would not do this.

    What Do Fuses Do?

    It's possible that your fuses are in the same location as the wiring, fully exposed. However, many disconnects have fuses in the handle itself, so you will have to pull the "T" handle out to find the fuses on this type.
    Either way, you need to pull out manufacturing the handle to stop the power from running through the fuses while you work. This DOES NOT stop power from coming to the disconnect on the line side. You should go back and shut down the breaker to your air conditioner to insure maximum safety.
    Now you can remove the fuses either by popping them out with your hands if they are in the handle itself or, if not, by grabbing them with a pair of pliers with insulated handles. Never use bare metal handles when working with electricity.
    So this may all sound like a lot but honestly, it only takes a few minutes to do. Just pop the fuses back in where you found them and turn everything back on before you sweat to death!

    Air Conditioner Breakers

    Most air conditioners are wired into a 20 or 30 amp circuit or breaker in a family residence. This breaker will have a doubled switch.

    What Kind of Fuse Does A/C Use?

    It is important that you buy the right size fuses for your air conditioning system. In a pinch, you could use a fuse that is rated for a lower amperage than the ones you need, but never more. Allowing too many amps to flow to your unit will cause it to break down. At worst, smaller fuses will blow more easily and overprotect your air conditioner. This means you'll be having this problem again soon.

    Many times, the fuse size is manufacturing written right on the fuse itself. If it isn't, then you should be able to get the amp rating of the air conditioner off of the rating plate on the unit. Sometimes these are located inside the access panel on the air conditioner. It should be rather easy to find.

    If you can't manufacturing find any amp rating on the fuse or rating plate, go with a 20 amp fuse and see if it blows as soon as you turn it on. If it does, remember that something other than the heat may have caused the fuse to blow and you may want to contact an electrician or an HVAC technician.

    In this step, you need to locate a perfect spot for adding the header pins. Also you have to notice where it should be go through the back cover of the remote control.

    I located this spot because it is easy to reach most lines.

    In addition, add some tape to the LCD screen to hold it and protect it while soldering and drilling.

    * Use the marker pen to locate holes for the header pins.
    * Double check that pins are goes fine every time you make a hole.
    * Putting a tape shows how the header looks like before you carry on.
    * After checking that it fit nicely, make sure there is nothing on the way that can be stuck from both side of the board.
    * You have to use a scalpel to remove the layer over the copper in front of the selected pins.
    * Start to bend some pins to make a manufacturing direct contact with lines. Then apply some solder.
    * In some case, you will need to use a tiny wire (like those on headphone cable) as bridge.
    * For those away lines, try and drill hols next to selected pins and so for lines.
    * Apply some glue to hold the header pins from move or broke.

    Once you learn of the costs it is not unreasonable. You can DIY once you learn how to do it if you cannot stomach the bill. You can do a whole furnace yourself, you can also set up the air conditioning system although this is a steep learning curve and better left to a pro. The only thing you cant DIY is your freon. Call them to come reclaim before starting and to charge the system after. If manufacturing they cant keep a vacuum on your AC setup then you did it wrong somewhere and they would have to remedy before charging. Would not hurt to have your own vacuum to test your system before they come, if you have it vacuumed ahead of time that will save them time and the labor should be less.

    Some cities require a pro sign off on gas appliances before its use. So you still may have to consult someone if you install a furnace yourself.

    Position the cover of the electronic control board case and reinstall the screws.

    Think of a fuse like a secret service agent. It takes the shot. If more amps than the air conditioner can handle try to reach the unit, the fuse will blow to protect the condenser. It is designed to handle a limited amount of amperage. The same is true of your breakers. Kind of cool, eh?

    How to Check if Your A/C Fuses are Blown

    If you suspect your fuses may be blown, the first thing you'll notice is that the A/C unit outside is not doing anything. You may hear a slight humming, but that's all. The best way to check the fuse is by using a voltmeter. Let's go through manufacturing this process first and then, for those of you who don't have a voltmeter or are uncomfortable testing voltage, I will give you another method for checking the fuses.

    REMEMBER! You are working with live electricity here. We cannot test fuses and voltage with the power off or the fuses removed. You should not attempt to work with live electricity if you are not a skilled electrician. In this case, we are taking a simple voltage reading but must still be careful and confident in what we are doing.

    The fan blade clamp, also known as a clamp spring, are for air conditioners. The clamp supports the fan blade on the motor shaft. When the motor is running, it signals the shaft to turn and rotate, manufacturing but without the support of the clamp the motor shaft is unable to function properly. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for installation instructions and accurate guidance. Remember to unplug your air conditioner from the power source as a safety precaution and wear work gloves while you perfrom this repair.

    As with anything related to your family's safety, such as a furnace, safety is, and should be, your #1 concern. After taking photos of all of the connection points with your digicam, or phone, and if the board is a direct replacement, you should not have any problem replacing the board yourself - just double-check all of the connections. And, of course, make sure you shut off the AC power to the furnace before starting the work.

    Remove the screws from the sides and bottom of the control panel.

    As the name suggests, furnace control boards are responsible for governing the operation of the furnace. At a minimum, a simple furnace control will control the furnace ignitor (e.g., a spark manufacturing generator or glow coil), the gas valve and the furnace thermocouple, also called a flame sensor.

    I notice from the parts diagram that this unit is equipped with a 5KV DC power supply (Sears Kenmore part 6609A10003Q). If that has failed in such a way that it kicks high voltage back to the main power board, then that could cause repeated failures of the main board. I notice too that there is not that much that can fail on the main power board, so it is likely either a malfunction of the high voltage supply or the other possibility would be that the main compressor contact on the main power board is underdesigned and the run capacitor for the compressor is weak (Sears Kenmore part 0CZZA20001N), causing frequent locked rotor starts of the compressor and rapid failure of the compressor contact. It is much less likely that the compressor is hard starting for some other reason and if that is the case then the unit would not be economically repairable. Check the value of the capacitor with a capacitance meter. If the capacitor is less than 90% of the labeled value, then it must be replaced.

    After first and second experiments we come up with a successful way to control the A/C unit. In this experiment, we got rid of using relay also we didn't need to risk our original remote control. So that, we put manufacturing our hand on a Universal A/C remote control. Then do some hack to that remote to control the A/C through Arduino interface. This will give us a chance to control different type of A/C. The one we hacked is capable to control 1000 A/C manufacturer type.

    This is a statement I've heard many times in my 22+ year HVAC career, and it's funny because it's true. This holds true for nearly any electrical appliance.

    n his last video Mike, our awesome HVAC tech friend from Dallas, showed us how to troubleshoot a fan control board. Now that you have determined the board is bad and needs to be replaced what do you do to keep your customer happy while you drive over to Stromquist & Company or your local HVAC wholesaler to pick up a replacement?

    To narrow this down any further would require some on-site trouble shooting manufacturing as Michael Karas stated. I am not usually a fan of the "parts-changer" approach to repair, but since the whole set of parts (capacitor, main power board, and high voltage supply) would be roughly $180 based on what I see on the internet, you may opt to replace all these parts together to save time and frustration. Also, the "searspartsdirect.com" website has information that shows how often the site sells each of these parts. They commonly sell the capacitor, main power board, and much less frequently the high voltage supply.

    The first experiment we tried to work it out was by record the A/C remote control beam signal for each needed button by using the IRrecvDump code with IRremote library for Arduino (https://github.com/shirriff/Arduino-IRremote). Then, use these signals to send it to the A/C unit directly. The main problem we faced was on analyzing the ON/OFF signal code. The ON/OFF signal code curries more than one signal code. This includes switch signal + fan speed + thermostat degree. Some times this could include the conditioning mode, as well, such as Dray, Cool, Fan etc. Basically, this was unsuccessful method to work with all A/C remote controls.

    The "brain" is typically is microcontroller or programmable logic. They are typically called Programmable Logic Controllers in the full package, which includes DC-DC power supply, I/O protection, etc. The PLC interfaces with sensors and actuators. Some sensors and most actuators use higher voltages (12-120+V) than logic (3-5V), so there are amplifiers manufacturing to drive high-current loads. Typically you will see isolation using relays or optoisolators so that high voltage cannot reach the PLC and cause undesired operation. Then there are power supplies, often with redundancy. Finally, sometimes there is a radio for wireless communication, and this could be part of the PLC or offboard.

    The second experiment was by hacking the remote control by adding a sort of wires then attached to Arduino over a relay. Modern remote controls are quite sophisticated and not easy to hack. One mistake in soldering could cause fail of that remote. So, it was too risky to hack and modify the original A/C remote control. However, we did some soldering test on unused remote control until we succeed. Then we wire it up to a number of relay module to control it with Arduino. But relay is quite expensive so that we needed to do a cheap hack without spending much money. Also we want to use less wires to be attached to Arduino to get extra space to add more features.

    Make sure all the pins on Arduino set to "LOW" when it is not needed.
    * Arduino has a continuance loop function which will not stop or terminate until you force it to.
    * A Universal Air Conditioner remote control has a hundreds number of codes to deal with different units. Make sure you set it to your own unit before use it with Arduino.
    * You can put a label on the back of your A/C remote control to identify each pin with Arduino pins.
    * Using the baseboard makes the remote manufacturing control easy to carry when its no need to place it on its base.
    * Beside the prices of Arduino, wires and PCB board, the A/C Universal Remote Control cost is about 12$. The total cost, including all stuff, is around 65$.

    The product by the evaporator, capillary, control electric appliance and the fan makes parts. Its priority as follows
    (1) the beautiful appearance, style, occupies a small area, low noise, use agile.
    (2) the into indoor unit and outdoor units, indoor installation position flexible, made of many indoor unit and an outdoor units supporting the use. Outdoor units of the overall size is not restricted.
    (3) noise is low, can be lower than 40,50dB, casing air conditioner noise in 60dB around.
    (4) split air conditioner doesn't affect indoor daylighting, won't produce the window with air conditioner vibration phenomenon.
    (5) easy installation and maintenance.

    Future work:
    This is not a complete project. It has some issues. E.g. when the Arduino set A/C unit to a specific configuration then someone takes off the remote from its base and reset manufacturing it to a different configuration. In this case, Arduino has no idea what new configuration it has been set.
    As a solution, we can add Arduino Mini to the remote control (http://arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardProMini). This will record any new configuration that has been set in time the remote control is not on its base.
    Also, there can be added a wireless Xbee module, so that, we can get rid of the baseboard. So with any manufacturing key pressed, it will send the new configuration to the main Arduino interface.

    Pull the control panel up and hold it above the air conditioner while you unplug the wire harness connection for the user interface control board.

    When an air conditioner will not blow air you should start by checking the air filter, then try testing the fan motor, and the control board. Use this troubleshooting guide to learn how to test each part.

    Set the control panel aside.
