there are many customers request to manufacture PCB with high Tg, so what is high Tg PCB?
Normally high Tg refers to high heat resistance in PCB raw material, the standard Tg for copper clad laminate is between 130 – 140℃, High Tg is generally greater than 170℃, and middle Tg is generally greater than 150℃. if PCB with Tg≥170℃, we call it high Tg PCB.
now more and more industry products, especially for the computer as the representative of electronic products, developing toward the more and more better performance, high multilayer requires PCB substrate material with higher heat resistance to ensure high reliability. also, SMT soldering develope to a higher level, CMT with high density pcb assembly technology, the PCB manufacturing with small hole size, fine lines and thin thickness are more and more inseparable from the support of high heat resistance.
TG means Glass Transition Temperature Temperatures that are associated with long term operations must be considered in the manufactured of printed circuit boards that will be exposed to high thermal loads.. The function of a circuit board will be affected if its temperature exceeds the designated Tg value.

PCBSINO answer: not necessarily. There are many factors to be taken into account, e.g. how many layers, the thickness of the PCB and also a good understanding of the assembly process (number of soldering cycles, time above 260 degrees, etc.). Some research has shown that a material with a “standard” Tg value has even performed better than some materials with a higher Tg value. Note that even with “leaded” soldering the Tg value is exceeded.
most importance is how the material behaves at temperatures above the Tg value (post Tg), so knowing the temperature profiles of the PCB will help you evaluate the necessary performance of the PCB boards.
High Tg PCB application:
If working temperature of your product is higher than normal (130-140C), then have to use high Tg material which is > 170C. and popular PCB high value are 170C, 175C, and 180C. Normally the PCB Tg value should be at least 10-20C higher than working temperature of product. If you 130TG board, working temperature will be lower than 110C; if use 170 high TG board, then maximum working temperature should be lower than 150C.
