To add to the novelty, an image of BB-8 is projected from the top of the pen when a button on the barrel is held down. It’s a neat feature, I guess, but one that also gets old pretty fast. I suppose this adds some function as a mini-flashlight, but I’m not sure if it’s possible to replace the battery, greatly limiting its usefulness.

At under five dollars, the InkWorks BB-8 Projector Pen is not expensive for a Star Wars memento. However, you will be disappointed if you’re actually planning on using this pen, as you can find a better pen at any convenience store for a fraction of the price. Personally, I’m happy to have it sitting in a cup with my other novelty pens, though I doubt I’ll ever pick it up again.

Sold as a 2-pen-pack this Optoma Interactive Light Pen is compatible with the Optoma W307UTSi projector. When the W307UTSi projector is on and connected to a computer, the Light Pen can be used to open and close programs on your computer by tapping the projection screen. The Light Pen also acts as a digital brush pen so you can highlight and write notes on your presentation, an imported background, or on a white screen using the whiteboard mode. Writing options include three pen ink colors, a highlighting option, and various drawing tools can help you keep track of different marks and edits made. The dual pen tool allows two users to edit the projected imaged simultaneously. These images and notes can then be saved to your computer for later review or sharing.
The interactive toolbar located on your projection allows you to switch between brush pen mode and mouse mode. The Light Pen's mouse mode allows you to use the pen as a mouse and click on different items on your computer's screen while standing at a distance from the projection.
The touch control pen tip lights up when sending signals so you can tell when the pen is on or off. Each Light Pen is powered by two AA-size batteries.

Digital pen systems, originally designed to digitize annotations made on physical paper, are evolving to permit a wider variety of applications. Although the type and quality of pen feedback (e.g., haptic, audio, and visual) have a huge impact on advancing the digital pen technology, dynamic visual feedback has yet to be fully investigated. In parallel, miniature projectors are an emerging technology with the potential to enhance visual feedback for small mobile computing devices. In this paper we present the PenLight system, which is a testbed to explore the interaction design space and its accompanying interaction techniques in a digital pen embedded with a spatially-aware miniature projector. Using our prototype, that simulates a miniature projection (via a standard video projector), we visually augment paper documents, giving the user immediate access to projector pen electronic additional information and computational tools. We also show how virtual ink can be managed in single and multi-user environments to aid collaboration and data management. User evaluation with professional architects indicated promise of our proposed techniques and their potential utility in the paper-intensive domain of architecture.

For the issue that you are experiencing, whilst ActivInspire is designed to work on Promethean Hardware, it has been known for this to work with some third party hardware such as interactive projectors however this may be a matter of testing a few settings and combinations.

Where we have previously mentioned about changing the Touch Input handling under File>Setting>Dual Mode ActivBoard it may be worth testing the different options and also amending the touch projector assembly pen electronic interoperability between OS Compatible and Default to see if this helps.

Do you also have the Promethean ActivDriver installed on your computer?
If you haven't got this installed, I would recommend installing this to see if this helps.

I don’t typically write reviews for novelty pens, but I’ve made an exception for this one, the InkWorks BB-8 Projector Pen. The reason is mainly because Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a very fun movie, and I really just wanted an excuse to buy this pen. After all, everybody loves the new BB-8 droid, and its orange and white color scheme looks great on a pen.

As far as novelty pens go, the InkWorks Projector Pen is about what you would assembly expect. While novelty pens can be fun items own and make good souvenirs, a good writing experience typically isn’t in the cards. Indeed, the BB-8 Projector Pen has an uncomfortable ridge in its mid-section, it’s top-heavy, and it uses mediocre ballpoint ink. As far as I can see, there’s also no easy way to replace the ink, and even the retracting mechanism, which requires twisting the tip of the pen, is a little annoying to use.

Projectors
Epson offers two types of BrightLink devices: the 455Wi, a full-sized projector capable of working on a wall, screen or table; and the Solo Interactive Module, or IU-01, a smaller add-on made to work with existing Epson projectors projector pen electronic and a wall or whiteboard. These devices combine the features of an ordinary digital projector with the location-sensitivity of a digitizing tablet and can sense and plot changes based on the activity of the interactive pen.

Interactive Pens
BrightLink projectors only work with special interactive pens that transmit an infrared signal to the BrightLink device itself. They require special drivers and a calibration step, after which the projector can respond to the movements of the pen. The assembly device does not work if you allow a shadow to fall over the tip of the pen or if the pen is held perpendicular to the board, which can interfere with the signal. Using infrared devices close to the projector can interfere with the device's ability to sense the pen's location. These pens require batteries to work correctly and may perform poorly if not fully charged.

For the 450/455 Epson projectors:
Plug in the vga/dongle cable to wall and laptop. Plug in the usb cord from wall (that’s for the pen).
Open the driver and tools. Turn off the lights close to the projector (the infrared interferes with the calibration). Right click on the pen icon in the dock, select calibrate normal. Hold the pen at an angle, rather than perpendicular to the board. Tap the circles as they appear.

For the 485 Epson projectors:
Plug in the vga/dongle cable to wall and laptop. Plug in the usb cord from wall (that’s for the pen).
Open the driver and tools. Turn off the lights close to the projector. projector pen electronic Calibrate the pen from the remote. Select menu, extended, easy interactive function, manual calibration. Hold the pen at an angle, rather than perpendicular assembly to the board. Tap the circles as they appear.
Tips:
-IF YOU ARE NOT SEEING YOUR DESKTOP IMAGE ON THE BOARD, DON’T FORGET TO MIRROR! Go to system preferences, display, arrangement and put a check in mirror display.
-The source for the projector displaying the computer is Computer 1.
-If you have a red x on the pen icon in the dock, the computer and projector may not be connected correctly. Make sure the projector is powered on and the usb cable is connected to your computer.

According to the findings of a study conducted by the London Institute of Education with the funding of the DfES evaluated the educational and operational effectiveness of the London Challenge element of the adoption of the use of interactive whiteboards in the London area under a program called "the Schools Whiteboard Expansion project." At Key Stage 3, interactive whiteboards here associated with little significant impact on student performance in Mathematics and English and only a slight improvement Science. In the same schools, at Key Stage 4, use of interactive whiteboards was found to have negative effects for Mathematics and Science, but positive effects for English. The authors cite several possible causes for the Key Stage 4 findings, including: a Type II statistical error, disruption to teaching methods leading to reduced pupil performance when IWBs were installed, or a non-random deployment decision of IWB installation resulting in a skew of the data.[9]

The DfES Primary Schools Whiteboard Expansion project[edit]
At the same time, there is evidence of improved performance gains with the use of interactive whiteboards. The BECTA (UK) commissioned a study into the impact of Interactive Whiteboards over a two-year period. This study showed a very significant learning gains, particularly with second cohorts of students, where they benefited from the teacher's experience with the device.[10]

Between 2003 and 2004, The DfES Primary Schools Whiteboard projector pen electronic Expansion project (PSWE) provided substantial funding to 21 local authorities for the acquisition and use of assembly interactive whiteboards in UK primary schools. The BECTA-sponsored study investigated the impact of this investment with 20 local authorities, using data for 7272 learners in 97 schools.

Variables considered in the research included length of exposure to interactive whiteboard technology, the age of pupils (down to individual birthdays), gender, special needs, entitlement to free schools meals and other socio-economic groupings. The implementation and impacts of the project were evaluated by a team at Manchester Metropolitan University, led by Professor Bridget Somekh. To date it is the largest and longest study conducted into the impact of interactive whiteboards.

Key findings[edit]
The principal finding of this large-scale study was that, "[w]hen teachers have used an interactive whiteboard for a considerable period of time (by the autumn of 2006 for at least two years) its use becomes embedded in their pedagogy as a mediating artefact for their interactions with their pupils, and pupils’ interactions with one another." The authors of the study argued that "mediating assembly projector pen electronic interactivity" is a sound concept, offering "a ... theoretical explanation for the way in which the multi-level modelling (MLM) analyses link the length of time pupils have been taught with interactive whiteboards to greater progress in national test scores year on year."

The research showed that interactive whiteboard technology led to consistent gains across all key stages and subjects with increasingly significant impact on the second cohorts, indicating that embedding of the technology into the classroom and teacher experience with the technology are key factors.

Gains were measured assembly in ‘months progress’ against standard measures of attainment over the two-year study period.

In infant classes, ages 5–7:

In Key Stage 1 Maths, high attaining girls made gains of 4.75 months over the two years, enabling them to catch up with high attaining boys.
In Key Stage 1 Science, there was improved progress for girls of all attainment levels and for average and high attaining boys.
In Key Stage 1 English, average and high attending pupils all benefited from increased exposure to interactive whiteboards
There was also clear evidence of similar impacts in Key stage two – ages 7 – 11

In Key Stage 2 Maths, average and high attaining boys and girls who had been taught extensively with the Interactive Whiteboard made the equivalent of an extra 2.5 to 5 months progress over the course of the two years.
In Key Stage 2 Science, all pupils, except high attaining girls made greater projector pen electronic with more exposure to the IWB, with low attaining boys making as much as 7.5 months additional progress
In Key Stage 2 writing, boys with low attainment made 2.5 months of additional progress.
There was no adverse impact observed at any level.

Additional research[edit]
Glover & Miller conducted a study on the pedagogic impact of interactive whiteboards in a secondary school. They found that although interactive whiteboards are theoretically more than a computer if it is only being used as an adjunct to teaching its potential remains unrealized. The authors’ research was primarily to ascertain the extent and type of use in the classroom. In order to determine if any change in pedagogy or teaching strategies was taking place the researchers conducted a detailed projector pen electronic questionnaire. The authors found that the teachers used the IWBs in one of three ways; as an aid to efficiency, as an extension device, and as a transformative device. They noted that teachers’ use of the technology was not primarily affected by training, access, or software availability. When used as a transformative device (approximately 10% of teachers taking part in the study) the impact on pedagogy was transformative.[11]

In recent[clarification needed when?] times, manufacturers of IWB technology have been setting up various online support communities for teachers and educational institutions deploying the use of the interactive whiteboards in learning environments. Such websites regularly contribute research findings and administer free whiteboard lessons to promote widespread use of interactive whiteboards in classrooms.

Many academics question industry-backed studies linking improved test scores to their products. And some go further. They argue that the most ubiquitous device-of-the-future, the assembly interactive whiteboard - essentially a giant interactive computer screen that is usurping blackboards in classrooms across America - locks teachers into a 19th-century lecture style of instruction counter to the more collaborative small-group models that many reformers favor.[13]
The same article also quotes Larry Cuban, education professor emeritus at Stanford University:

There is hardly any research that will show clearly that any interactive whiteboards will improve academic achievement.[13]
An article posted on the National Association of Secondary School assembly Principals web site details pros & cons of interactive whiteboards. A report on interactive whiteboards from London's Institute of Education said:

Although the newness of the technology was initially welcomed by pupils any boost in motivation seems short-lived. Statistical analysis showed no impact on pupil performance in the first year in which departments were fully equipped.[14]
The report highlighted the following issues:

Sometimes teachers focused more on the new assembly technology than on what pupils should be learning.
The focus on interactivity as a technical process can lead to some relatively mundane activities being over-valued. Such an emphasis on interactivity was particularly prevalent in assembly classes with lower-ability students.
In lower-ability groups it could actually slow the pace of whole class learning as individual pupils took turns at the board.
